"When
you are tempted to become discouraged in your efforts toward greater
prosperity, remind yourself that to think according to the general
beliefs of the human race is easy- and useless. But to think
prosperously in spite of appearances to the contrary is worth every
effort, because it produces rich results. One editor has often
said to me, 'Remember, Catherine, the majority is always wrong!"
... Another way to invoke the law of increase, and thus to avoid the
pettiness and destructiveness of the law of decrease, is by training
your mind never to be disappointed. If certain things do not come
at certain expected times in the way you wished, do not consider it a
failure. Since you have not received that thing, you can instead
stand firm in the faith that something much better is on the way and
will appear at the right time. When you seem to fail, remind
yourself that it is because you have not asked big enough. Expand
your viewpoint and expectation, and a larger answer than you originally
anticipated will surely come. Failure is nothing but success
trying to be born in a bigger way. Most seeming failures are just
installments toward victory!"
- Catherine Ponder, The dynamic laws of prosperity
There is so much information
available on the Internet referencing the Law of Attraction and there
are life coaches, workshops, seminars, and gurus galore that are
marketing to people without telling them the truth that the two things
that are absolutely necessary for success and prosperity is "self
reliance" and "non-conformity." Everything comes
back to what we believe to be true about ourselves and this must come
from within our own mind, heart and soul or it is absolutely worthless.
Does this mean that we can't learn from others? No, I am not
implying that at all, but we must learn from those who are
"giving" what they know to us without thought of personal
gain. And why is this so? It is so, because anyone who
"wants the money upfront" is in the business of making money,
not in the business of doing spiritual work ... enlivening the spirit of
others. We wouldn't pay a plumber to fix our plumbing
"upfront" ... we pay when the plumbing is fixed ... when we
have received the results of his/her labor/skills/abilities.
We have all heard or read from many
sources, "do what you love and love what you do and the money will
show up." But, too many of those who are teaching this, want
the money upfront. The ancient wisdom, "the laborer is worthy
of his hire" is a spiritual principle. And this principle
understood and mentally held as truth, will bring permanent prosperity
... and continuous activity in whatever it is that we do that expresses
the abilities, talents, skills, and intelligence resident within us that
is natural to us. And how do we know what is natural to us?
It is that thing that we do and will do, no matter how much or how
little money we receive from doing it. Whatever this is, if done
persistently, will prosper us and bring us whatever success we desire in
life.
A few years ago an excellent teacher and
spiritual counselor who had spent years teaching and counseling others,
quit the work. It wasn't that she didn't love what she did or that
it did not give her a feeling of purpose, but she quit because her work
did not produce any revenue. Neither her students or her
counseling clients reciprocated in the form of financial compensation.
This was so hard-pressed on her mind that she just couldn't continue
with her work. Yet, I believe that if she had impressed her
students with the principle "freely give and freely receive"
that she would have "freed" her own mind from the lack of
compensation and the revenue would have come to her in some form just as
it would her students and clients. Nothing is free in life.
To believe that we receive something "free of reciprocity" is
childish and reveals a "lack" consciousness. It
contradicts the law of reciprocity. We should always feel that
impulse to give when we believe that we have received something,
anything. And money is not the only means of reciprocity.
Mutual support and respect for that which has been received are forms of
giving that can sometimes be of more value than money as it will draw to
both the giver and the receiver more good. It is the law of cause
and effect in action. This is why the Master Mind Jesus instructed
his followers to not only accept this, but to actively do this; "Love
the Lord your G-d with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This
is the first and greatest commandment. And
the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
This
speaks to the activity of Spirit within us as givingness, forgivingness
and livingness ... it is Intelligence
realized. And
in this we are acknowledging our gratitude to G-d for everything that we
have, including the gift of life itself, and we are reciprocating with
love and recognition. And secondly, we are acknowledging our
willingness to "do unto others as we would have others do unto
us." In other words, we must give to G-d in whatever way it
comes to us to give and give to those who give to us, freely and without
restraint ... otherwise at the deepest level of mind (soul) we cannot
truly believe that we can receive ... freely, without constraint.
I have found five (5) myths about manifesting
abundance, or at least the wrong teaching about it, that I would like to
bring forward in this message. The first (1) myth is
"tithing" ... tithing is giving 10% of what we receive to a
church or other place where we receive spiritual guidance and
understanding, or some will teach to charity. But, the key error
in this teaching is that tithing in and of itself will bring us
prosperity. It won't. What brings us prosperity is our
willingness to give freely and in the giving to maintain the state of
mind that we do not have less because we have given ... whether 10% or
ten cents. The greatest value that we can get from tithing is to
use it as a way to develop commitment ... commitment to those things
that have value and purpose to us and to know as we share our good with
them we are aligning ourselves with value and purpose. This state
of mind, or consciousness, can be achieved by giving any amount
consistently ... and there are those who give more than 10% because they
feel a greater sense of commitment to that which they give to.
The second (2) myth is that "attracting
abundance is easy for "some" people. Nothing is easy for
"some" people ... what one can do, all can do, and this is the
truth that we must accept in our mind. To say it is "easy for
some people" is not unlike saying some people are lucky and others
are not ... this is superstitious. We are all equal in substance
and spirit. We all draw from the One Source/Intelligence, the
ideas, the energy, the chemistry, whatever it is that is necessary for
us to manifest prosperity and whatever good we desire. As we know
this, we become self-reliant.
The third (3) myth is that we are to "love
and appreciate money." Take some money out of your wallet or
purse and look at it and tell me if you love it. How much would we
love money if we could not "use" it? In reality, isn't
it what we can "use" the money for that we love? If we
focus on loving and appreciating money we stifle the flow of good that
will manifest in our lives and saturate our consciousness with
limitation. Not every good thing that comes to us to
"use" requires an exchange of money. To focus on money
limits the Infinite from prospering us with the good that is ours to
receive. The ancient wisdom that "G-d has ways that we know
not of" must never be discounted.
The fourth (4) myth is the "Rich Dad, Poor
Dad" teaching. Having a rich dad does not guarantee us wealth
and financial abundance. Neither does having a poor
dad limit us in our ability to realize prosperity and success.
This is putting "consciousness" outside of ourselves.
The person who makes the decision with a firm commitment and resolve to
be prosperous and successful will find the way to do so. It will
be revealed in some way. There is evidence of this that far
outweighs the evidence against it. The great Emerson stated, "that
which I am to do best, only my Maker can teach me" ...
and this is the truth and is also why "non-conformity" is so
very important in realizing success and prosperity. We are not
here to "imitate" anyone else, either the rich dad or the poor
dad ... or to conform to the ideas of another. We all shall find
our own way in which to realize success and prosperity if we truly
desire to do so.
The
fifth (5) myth is "repetitive affirmations." Especially
to repeat the same affirmation for a specific number of days or number
of times each day. This is superstitious and limits the soul's
development. The great Emerson was right on when he said, "Speak
what you think today in hard words (with conviction) and tomorrow
speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict
every thing you said today." This aligns our mind in
tune with the Infinite impulse of whatever it is that we are to have, to
do, or to be as our consciousness develops more and more each day
towards our goal of permanent prosperity and success. The mystical
Ernest Holmes stated to say a "thousand times a day" ... more
and more good is mine, an ever-increasing good is mine ... but what that
"good is" can change daily for most of us and the
"thousand times a day" was to encourage us to fill our mind
with the idea of having the thing that we desired, not an activity of
counting how many times we affirm it in a day's time.
These aren't the only myths being taught
about manifesting prosperity. There are a great number of them.
Does that mean they never work? No, I believe even the myths work
for some people, but they can't be depended on. In the final
analysis everything comes back to mind; our mind, our thoughts, and our
ideas that we entertain in mind. No one else can think for us and
no one else knows what it is; what thought, what idea, what image ...
will bring into our mind, heart and soul that transformation that
realizes, renews and refreshes our mind, to the truth, that the power to
manifest prosperity is within us, each and every one of us.
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the
faith!
