On a daily basis my
two Facebook accounts are filled with memes that contain
statements to encourage people to have faith in G-d, in Jesus,
etc. I have no doubts that these are well intentioned, and for
some, comforting. However, faith should be more than comforting,
more than an antidote for reasonable concerns about the things
we are dealing with in our current environment; i.e. COVID,
climate change, fires, floods, droughts, etc. From some of these
memes we are directed to give up our doubts and trust implicitly
in our Creator.
This is not new, as even
the greatest of philosophers of the 19th Century who were
revealing truth to a greater degree than ever before, still held
on in their words and writings that faith in someone or
something outside of ourselves who would save us from the ills
of the world we live in, would save us. We have had hundreds of
years to see that this is just not so for so many. Were the
victims of the Holocaust not people of faith in G-d? Were the
4,506,796 people who have died of COVID without faith in the
Lord, or Jesus, or G-d? I think (opinion) that these were good
people; many people of faith, but I also believe that at our
soul level we all make life and death decisions. That is death
in the physical, for the soul of each of us is eternal.
Can the masses of
people have faith without a god? I don't believe that we have
reached that level of evolution yet, and that is unfortunate. We
should have. I don't mean as individuals, but as the Collective
Consciousness. Until we turn from that which is not fostered by
intelligence to that which is fostered by Intelligence, we shall
always be looking and believing that something or someone
outside of us is in control of our lives. "Faith is the strength
of the soul and lost is the person without it," is truth. This
faith must be in our own strength to move through whatever it is
that we must move through in order to live the good life, the
healthy life, the prosperous life, and the life that is worth
living.
