It
is true, we all want something. It is also true, that not all of
us are willing to admit to what we want. Some people think
of their desires as fantasies, rather than the seed of something
to be accepted and experienced. Many of us are unhappy with our
lives, or think our lives are dull, yet we don't do anything to
change things. Is it because we have been disappointed in the
past? Have we felt the helplessness of having failed at
achieving something we really wanted? If these are our feelings,
we should honor them, but not let them hold us in bondage to a
life that is without enthusiasm and hope.
This is from
the writings of Helen Wilmans: "Because
humanity is a mental being, and the truth, in a thousand forms,
is the Life Principle lying latent and made visible by our own
recognition of itself. This is the true method of mental growth
- which is also "physical" growth. As sure as the world turns on
its axis, Walt Whitman was correct when he said: "The soul is
the body and the body is the soul." Because a person is whole,
whole. Our so-called physical being is our mental being, and the
ever-progressive development of the mental will always be the
progressive development of the physical. Imagination rests on
the basis of desire, and it is its mother. It is unlimitedly
prolific; so much so, so wonderfully suggestive of wonderful
possibilities, that we are afraid to trust it. "It is too good
to be true," we say, and, with the faint heart of ignorance, we
close our eyes to the glorious prospect that opens for us, And
yet trusting in the wishes born of imagination is the beginning
of the creation of new uses .... with the creation of new uses
our own desires will be found. This is just the growth of the
breed. . . (the growth of the human race). "
I know you know this
already, but let's be reminded that soul is synonymous with
consciousness. Walt Whitman is telling us that all is
consciousness, and that is the truth. I believe imagination
precedes desire. Our imagination gives us a glimpse of what is
possible, but desire is the driving force that amplifies our
consciousness to open up to the greater possibilities for us.
Let's give ourselves a few minutes each day to think about what
we want, that something that will bring us into a greater sense
of being whole. These can be the most important few minutes of
our lives.
Keep the Faith!
