Michael Singer is
quoted as stating, "you must go beyond." This is the way it is
for everyone. We must go beyond what we have learned from the
world. We can never find true peace of mind as long as we allow
ourselves to believe that someone or something outside of
ourselves is going to give us that which we want. No one and no
thing can give us anything. Everything that we have, we have
accepted and no one else can accept anything for us. This
acceptance takes place in consciousness. Our very own
consciousness.
Soon after
"The Secret" was published in 2006, several self-appointed
teachers started teaching the Law of Attraction. Many of them
taught that we are responsible for creating the issues in our
lives; illness, poverty, bad relationships, etc. In other words,
if someone was experiencing cancer, then they had attracted it
to themselves. Of course, this caused an uproar and so those who
wanted to continue to be popular or have their seminars be
successful or their books sold, softened their approach. Prior
to this release of "The Secret" and the sudden interest in the
Law of Attraction, metaphysical teachers taught the Law of
Correspondence. The Law of Correspondence is defined in Ernest
Holmes' 1938 revised and enlarged "The Science of Mind" as
follows: "The law of correspondence works from the belief to the
thing. It we believe we shall have only a little good, only a
little good will come into our experience. The demonstration we
make corresponds with our ability to provide a mental equivalent
of our desire."
The key to
Ernest Holmes' definition of the Law of Correspondence is
"corresponds to our ability to provide a mental equivalent of
our desires." This is definitely not telling us we attracted
cancer or poverty, but is telling us we have to provide a mental
equivalent that is greater than illness or poverty. The
Intelligence, Power and Spirit that is as present with us as
gravity, corresponds to this mental equivalent. This is why some
people survive horrendous illnesses and some rise above poverty
to great wealth. As the Master Mind Jesus stated, "we are in the
world" but our gift is our ability to be "not of this world."
That is to go beyond what the world accepts and believes and
create a mental equivalent (the way in which we see our self)
that is stronger and more resilient than perhaps we have
previously ever imagined ourselves to be.
One of the first
mental steps we can take to register this greater mental
equivalent in our consciousness, is to stop wanting. To go from
"I want, I want, I want" ... to "I have, I have, I have," and
see it so we can believe it. See it in the silence of our mind.
Draw a picture of it if possible. But stop wanting and see
ourselves having is the most important spiritual practice we
will ever engage in.
Keep the Faith!
