I had read an article that stated that
many evangelical Christians are playing down the "Jesus is
coming back" position in their churches and that got me
thinking, (MEGA churches and MAGA cultists share similar
acronyms). It struck me as funny that a Christian church I saw
on Facebook had a Santa visit after their Christmas program. I
wonder how many kids thought "Jesus may not have come back but
Santa sure did!" The photos inside the church and the photos of
the Christmas program looked very nice and welcoming, and
perhaps Jesus would have enjoyed it since Hanukkah is past
already, but the front of the church area was filled with huge
crosses and I would bet that the last thing Jesus would want to
see on his return would be another wooden cross!
Over at FOX
NEWS-(entertainment), the "War on Christmas" took on a personal
note as a homeless man set their Christmas tree made of metal
pipes and twinkled lights on fire. I am surprised that the FOX
program hosts weren't calling on people to go after Santa for
"stopping the steal of Christmas!" But oh well, what can we say
when we can't even find 3 wise-men in an entire Network of
Faux-News and the only wise man they were credited as having on
their staff left abruptly just before Christmas.
I was amused
to see a "Holiday Tree" in the window of a gift shop with
twinkling lights and dreidel decorations both lighted and
non-lighted on a blue fake tree. I would have sent a photo of it
to FOX but I think they have been stressed out enough with the
decimated tree. The reason for the season is changing rapidly.
How many of you remember the department stores offering "free
gift wrapping?" Those days are long gone, but it was nice while
it lasted.
Another interesting
article I read in the past week was concerning the "Nones" ...
no, that wasn't a typo of Nuns. The "Nones" are the label that
has been given to the people who no longer ascribe to a
religious affiliation. And it's not just Catholics who don't
even know how to pray a rosary. The "Nones" are the people who
believe that there is something greater than mankind but not the
god of religion. The Nones are people who have realized the
foolishness and hypocrisy of religious dogma and religious
leaders. Most Nones cannot wrap their heads around G-d and
Science being the same thing and still see a separation between
them. There is "none" ... and that is the truth.
In reality the Christmas
season has expanded in the last few decades, at least here in
America it has. We have Black Fridays, Cyber Mondays which the
Media hypes each year. Christmas parties are in high gear again
as most people have become tired of the pandemic for better or
for worse. Amazon and other leading online shopping sites have
increased sales even though people are complaining about
inflation. Anyone remember President Ford's "WIN" buttons? It
was an acronym for "Whip Inflation Now." You could see lots of
them worn by people in the long lines waiting to fill up their
cars with gas during the gas rationing at the same time.
To me, Christmas is
a time of giving. I give as much as I can without going into
debt. I give to people at random and to those I love always. Of
the many reasons for the season I believe the Jesus message of
"give and be given to" is probably the best reason to celebrate
the day!
Keep the Faith!
