"A
foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little
statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul
has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his
shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and
tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it
contradict every thing you said today. 'Ah, so you shall be sure to be
misunderstood.' Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras
was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and
Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit
that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Pythagoras
lived approximately 600 years before the Master Mind Jesus. His
influence is still visible today in Freemasonry and the Rosicrucian
Orders. He is credited for being the first to announce that the
Earth is spherical even though the masses would deny it as so.
His was a philosophy that we must be "creators and doers"
rather than remain comfortable and satisfied. This quote
illustrates his philosophy best: “In this
theater of man's life, it is reserved only for God and angels to be
lookers-on." Like the Master Mind Jesus, he understood that
life was for living and that it is inherent within us to desire to do
the greater things still and to realize the abundant life; for these
things are of the nature of G-d, Infinite Spirit/Life/Intelligence.
It is a wonderful and
beautiful thing to feel the unique-ness of our soul and to be willing
to express all that It seeks to experience without limitation.
In a world that is constantly attempting to dictate how we should live
our lives very few have found true freedom in this seeming un-free
world. We have all been taught to "conform" ...
sometimes in subtle ways and sometimes in not so subtle ways.
Business organizations, churches and social organizations all make
demands on us to "fit in" to conform to the mission of the
organization or the moral codes of the church or the consistency of
behavior in social organizations. The so-called "free
spirits" among us are limited for the most part to the creative
arts; acting, dancing, singing, music. Yet, our soul is always
seeking to express a genuine freedom and our unwillingness or seeming
inability to let this creative expression come through us may be the
cause of those feelings that we experience which block our enthusiasm
for living.
For those who choose
to live and to live fully and freely express the creatively unique
spirit within them there will always be opportunities to do so.
G-d is always with us, always seeking to express through us uniquely,
lovingly, joyfully and creatively. Even when we sometimes feel
that everything we do is so much of the same there will come that
moment when a spark of the Divine will surge through our mind and soul
and create something that will cause us to look with wonder at what we
have accomplished. Will the people around us notice this?
Not necessarily. No one but the person who has the experience
can fully understand what happens when the Spirit has moved through
our mind fully and freely. Will these experiences change
us? Undoubtedly. In the ancient wisdom we can read of the
"transforming of the mind" and the "renewing of a right
spirit within" ... to say this experience is mystical would be an
understatement ... it is G-d being G-d in you!
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the
faith!
