“The
law of prosperity is beautifully expressed by the Psalmist when he says,
"His delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he
meditate day and night." (Psalm 1:2) Prosperity means to
increase our capacities and abilities along all lines and in every
direction so that we release our inner powers. The promotion, the
money, and the contacts you wish to make are the images or likenesses,
as well as the physical forms of the states of mind which produce
them.”
- Dr.
Joseph Murphy, "The Amazing Laws of Cosmic Mind Power"
When I was growing up on the farm in Missouri, my father would tell us,
"early to bed, early to rise, makes you healthy, wealthy and
wise" ... and these words served him well. Back then, I
assumed he said this so I would get up at 5:00 a.m. to milk the cows
before going to school. In reality, these statements from my
father have stuck with me my entire life, and they have served me well.
There is a wisdom that goes beyond the mere words and that is, if we are
to do well in our lives, we must get plenty of rest so that we have the
zest and vitality to do the things that we must do in order to
demonstrate both wisdom and wealth.
Many people in the world are obsessed with
diets and other therapies to keep them healthy, but without restful
sleep, most of these diets and therapies will only give us temporary
health. Sleep is important not only for our physical body, but for
our emotional and mental health as well. If our mind is focused on
not having the energy to get through the day, then there is not much
likelihood that it will be open and receptive to new ideas and
inspiration. Even prayer, meditation, and spiritual mind
treatment, cannot provide for us the necessary effects of a good night's
sleep. In fact, to practice any of them effectively, it is
necessary that we get plenty of sleep, as lack of sleep adversely
affects our state of mind, or attitude. Our attitude is key to our
success and prosperity.
In Dr. Murphy's book, "The Amazing Laws of
Cosmic Mind Power," he writes about a man who was struggling to be
successful. Here is what Dr. Murphy wrote: "An
insurance salesman once said to me, "I try so hard, and I work long
hours, but my results are meager and most disappointing." I
arranged for him to have a session with me once a week. At these
sessions I had him still his mind, relax, and let go; then I would pray
for him as follows: "You are relaxed and at ease, poised,
serene, and calm. By day and by night you are prospering
spiritually, mentally, and financially. You are a tremendous
success. You are open and receptive to new ideas. Your good
is flowing to you freely, joyously, endlessly, and ceaselessly.
The law of increase is working for you now." ... Then he would pray
for about five minutes in the same manner after my prayer, affirming
these truths in the first person, present tense. These weekly
get-togethers brought marvelous results. Within a few weeks he
began to make new contacts, and his sales increased by leaps and bounds.
He discovered that a changed attitude changed everything in his
life."
When we "direct" our subconscious
towards anything; success, wealth, health, prosperity ... prior to going
to sleep, it works throughout the night without any opposition from our
conscious mind. But, we must be relaxed as we go to sleep.
Feeling stressed, tired, or over-worked, can hinder us from benefiting
from the power of our subconscious mind. A good night's rest,
along with daily prayer-treatment and moments of sitting in the silence
... will work wonders in our life. As the Master Mind Jesus
stated, "it is the Father that doeth the work" ... but even
the Father (Infinite Spirit) cannot work effectively through a mind that
is tired and frustrated.
Let's take another
look at the affirmations that Dr. Murphy
used with the salesman and let us say them, silently or out loud ... in
the first person, present tense:
"I
am relaxed and at ease, poised, serene, and calm. By day and by
night I am prospering spiritually, mentally, and financially. I am
a tremendous success. I am open and receptive to new ideas, now.
My good is flowing to me freely, joyously, endlessly, and ceaselessly,
now. The law of increase is working for me now."
Let's
know that this is so ... and let's let it be so ... now.
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
