"God loves each of us as if there were only one of us."  – St. Augustine

This simple, yet deeply profound statement from St. Augustine gives us so much to think about, to contemplate and to meditate on.  The way in which this simple Truth is understood in our mind, is realized in our life experiences every day.  How so very different this is than what we have been taught from the world.  We measure our love even to our friends with words like "my best friend" or as current slang states "my BFF" [Best Friend Forever]. I wonder if anyone has ever told their second or third or fourth best friend their rankings in their feelings of friendship and affection for them.  I have even heard parents say "my favorite child" with little awareness of how this makes the siblings of the "favorite child" feel or the confusion in their minds that it instills.  Popular ministers/preachers will tell us that we can receive "God's favor" ... as if G-d's love can become lesser and greater depending on something we do.  This kind of silliness is so pervasive in modern Christianity that few ever dispute the truth of it within the Christian communities of faith.  We can read in the ancient scriptures:  1 Corinthians 13:11
"When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man (adult), I gave up childish ways."

We hear so much in our culture about "one true love" or "the one love of our life."  These terms are used in songs, movies, plays and novels.  Yet, no one has ever been able to experience either of these for any great period of time.  The omnipresent Love that Is G-d is always seeking to expand our capacity to experience what it is to love and to be loved.  No one with a healthy heart and mind is limited in the expression of love.  Although we love our families, our friends, our husbands, our wives, our children ... love is never limited in its expansion through us, unless we consciously choose to limit its expression.  We love our work, our art, our cars, our clothes, our homes, our church ... the list is almost infinite.  So, we realize that love isn't even limited to other people, but to those things of a material substance as well.

         The mystical Ernest Holmes writes:
"If I meet you as someone apart, someone I don't like or someone who doesn't like me, I am making a barrier between us.  But if, turning away from everything that appears limited, we meet each other as Divine beings, this will also include us as humans.  The greater will always include the lesser.  We all have a certain kind of integrity which makes it almost impossible for us to violate, very consistently, that Something in us.  Friendship begets friendship, love begets love, peace surrounds us with peace, joy creates joy, and a feeling of the abundance of everything in the universe automatically causes our adequate supply of all things to flow to us."

As we know that all is consciousness, we can know that our thoughts about someone we like or don't like is within our own consciousness.  There are those who have a "whole lotta love" to give and we feel this about them as we enter into their consciousness.  If we did not have this same capacity for love within us, we would not recognize it within someone else.  As we recognize that everything that exists is the Spirit of G-d working through our consciousness, then we realize that this is why we are here ... to be an expression of G-d.  As we identify with the infinite Love that is G-d then we know that this Love is always seeking to work all things to the good that we behold in our mind as good; health, success, prosperity, loving companionship and more.  But, we must foster and cultivate the desire for these things not just for ourselves but for all those we come into contact with.  This is not something that strains us or pressures us, but something that is very natural to us.

Let's look at these words from Ernest Holmes:  "There is a Spirit in us that bears witness to the truth.  Though we may not look it, and often may not act it, we are perfect right now.  The knowledge and use of this truth of being will make us free of  the limitations that our lack of awareness has brought upon us."  It is the Love of G-d that keeps us perfect in the Spirit.  We can read in the ancient scriptures that we are created in the image and likeness of G-d ... that is, of Spirit, Intelligence, Power and Love.  We may lose sight of this image and likeness but it is G-d's nature to see us always in this image and likeness no matter what we have done, have thought, have experienced or failed to do.  This can be difficult for the mind with a pervasive belief in good and evil, saints and sinners to believe, but the truth of it never changes based on our belief and the truth of it will be made evident in our life experiences as we recognize it as the truth.  It is the truth ... eternal, universal, changeless and immutable truth.  This is why the Master Mind Jesus taught that "the Father is a Spirit and we must worship Him (Intelligence, Spirit, Power) in spirit and in truth."

Let's not get distracted by "surface" personalities, our actions or the actions of others, and daily realize that we have a "whole lotta love" as the song goes and the truth of it demands us to recognize.  As we cultivate, foster and nurture the truth that Love transcends all that is unlike it, includes everyone in it and is available always, we can begin to enjoy this thing called Life in ways we never imagined before.  Let's love everybody as G-d loves us all ... as one.

Keep the faith!
